Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt

The Lady from the Sea (2028) by acclaimed Norwegian dance company Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt, will premiere at Dansens Hus, Oslo, spring 2028, for the international celebrations of Henrik Ibsen’s bicentenary.

The performance is loosely based on Ibsen’s play and elaborates on the choreographer’s critically praised work Sjøen/The Sea (2010), also a major success on international tour from 2011 – 2013.

The Lady from the Sea deepens the company’s explorations of the complexities of gender, relationships and feminism today through female protagonists Ellida Wangel and Rebecca West from Rosmersholm.

Previously Bjørnsgaard has worked with the abstraction of elements of Ibsen’s dramas and female characters also in The Munich Triology at the Norwegian National Ballett (2019/2024) and Rotating Nora (2014).

Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt has received great international recognition through co-productions and guest performances at renowned institutions and festivals all over the world.

The company rigorously pursues a distinctive dancerly take on the frailty of the modern human condition, with a subtle interdisciplinary approach by means of elements from the visual arts, literary references and both contemporary and classical music.

The musical score for The Lady from the Sea (2028)will use elements from Schönberg transformed by Geir Jenssen/ Biosphere, as a part of the company’s refined take on the relationship between movement and music.

The new production is currently welcoming international and national co-producers and venues.
